I smiled

Took another puff.
Ignored the guff.
Death beckons.
Ill-health reckons.

Boredom sets in.
Among the kin.
Not a good sign.
Gloomy with wine.

So I gulp down the grief.
Eyes glint like a petty thief.
I smile… I speak.
The brotherhood laughs – gloom is now weak.

Mask’s on. Match on. Party’s over.
I smiled.

Varun Rajagopalan.
